Call Sign History of ARS WØPE

WA6GSC*

It looks like from about 1958 to about 1963 the WA6GSC call was issued to Donald S. Barth Jr. on Nordhoff Street in Northridge,CA. It was not renewed and after about 10 years it was a reissued call sign that I received in 1973. I kept the call for about 31 years. In 2004 I changed to the W6GSC call.

This is an interesting call. As near as I can figure out the call a) Never issued or b) was issued as a secondary station call for a short time. Way back when an operator would have a second call if they had a second station set up. Wiskey six golf sierra charlie. The main reason for the switch was to shorten the call so dropped the A. Anyway I had it for about 4 years.

Don't ask me why I like this call so much. At first I just liked the Wiskey zero papa echo phonetics.After about the end of the first day it hit me that the PE was also Pacific Electric. This was the worlds great transportation system back a hundred years ago right here in southern California. Even a station right here in Yorba Linda. The zero part of the call is connected to the fact I was born in South Dakota.

This was a little harder to get used to. To just drop the A was one thing but to change the whole call was another. Even after 4 months every once in a while a W6GSC comes out. again I really like the Wiskey Six Papa Echo so think it will be the last change of call signs.

* WA6GSC - Wiskey six golf sierra charlie normal phonetics about the first day I received the call, W6SYC (SK)  Leroy Sparks gave me the phonetics Girl Scout Cookies. I was not the first Girl Scout Cookies, the first was Norm Perrin K6GSC. I am not a big fan of made up phonetics, but to this day I guess I'm still Girl Scout Cookies to some.
